Face ID uses the camera already available on the device to capture a facial representation your system can compare against previously authorized references. The flow can adapt to registration, access, or confirmation, according to each product's rules.

The model processes the image and turns relevant features into a mathematical representation the system can use.

Privacy and governance
Biometric information requires explicit decisions about purpose, authorization, access, retention, and deletion. These controls must be defined before taking a recognition experience to production.
Explain what the recognition will be used for before requesting camera access.
Capture should happen within a flow that's clear, deliberate, and understandable to the person.
Document what is stored — images, vectors, and metadata — for how long, and who can access it.
A vector representation still requires security and governance controls. It shouldn't be treated as anonymous by default.
If the capture can't be completed or the result isn't conclusive, offer another way to continue.
Validate behavior against the cameras, lighting, and user diversity present in the actual environment.
